Les sarcophages chrétiens, apparus à la fin du IIè se développent surtout au IVè. L'iconographie se détache de la tradition païenne et alexandrine : Le Christ barbu remplace le Christ hellénistique imberbe. Centres de production : Rome, Arles, Espagne, Asie Mineure.
